I've often heard that America is a Christian country, or at least it was founded upon Christian principles. Maybe so. I really don't know. However, I very much want America to be a Christian country. Why so? Because of Psalm 33:12. The nation is blessed whose God is the LORD.
So I pray that America is Christian but I can't say for sure because America is a lot of things. America is a lot of things to a lot of people. We are over 325 million individuals under one flag. So it's not so easy to say what America is or what America is not. And how can you truly know the answer any way? Just because a person says they are a Christian doesn't make it so.
The more important question is, "Am I a Christian?" And guess what? Who do you think truly knows the answer? Who is the only one who can know the answer? That would be me.
So it's no wonder that the Bible says, "Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves" (2 Corinthians 13:5). I'm not to examine my coworker or my neighbor or my significant other! The only person I am to examine is myself! I'm not to judge others, I'm to judge myself. So the next time I hear someone ask if America is a Christian country, I hope to turn the question on myself. Am I a Christian? Am I walking in the fear of JAH? How am I letting my little light shine today?
